Internships are a vital stepping stone for students looking to gain practical experience and enhance their employability. The Indian government has recognized this need and launched various internship programs that offer students the opportunity to intern with government departments for a minimum stipend of ₹10,000 per month. This initiative not only helps students apply their academic knowledge in real-world scenarios but also provides them with valuable insights into the workings of the government.

Panaji: The state govt has notified the Goy Mukhya Mantri Prashikshanarthi Yojana (GMMPY) where interns from undergraduate (UG) to PhD level will be hired to work for the Coding and Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) scheme. Interns will have to work with the state for at least six weeks and will be paid Rs10,000 to Rs45,000 per month, based on their qualifications.
The project management unit (PMU) for the CARES scheme will onboard around 15 interns at a time; this number may be increased with the government’s permission. The idea is to offer short-term exposure to interns and allow young academic talent to be associated with the PMU-CARES work for mutual benefit. The internship will be available throughout the year.

“The interns shall have an opportunity to know about the PMU-CARES functioning and develop various hardware/software tools, electronic kits, and learning material and contribute to the skill-based competence development on computational thinking, design thinking, STREAM implementation and roll-out by implementing the various tools and techniques using research knowledge, empirical study reports for school education and reviews various govt policy papers, etc in the similar domain,” the scheme states.
Eligibility Criteria
Those aspiring to join as interns should have an academic record with at least 85% at Class X and a score of 70% and above, for students who are graduates, postgraduates, and PhD scholars. The interns should have at least 75% attendance during the internship and will be issued an internship certificate by PMU-CARES.

While a non-professional program UG student will be paid Rs10,000 a month, a professional program UG student will be paid Rs12,000 monthly.
Similarly, a student of a non-professional postgraduate (PG) program will be paid Rs15,000 a month, and one studying a professional PG program will be paid Rs18,000 per month.
A PhD scholar will earn an internship amount of Rs45,000 a month from the state and is expected to put in a minimum of 12 months of internship, once selected.
