Nissan Launches its Iconic Supercar GT-R ‘Godzilla’ in India for Rs. 1.99 Crore!
Ford launched its sports car Mustang in India early this year. The car was expected to be sold only to the rich and the car enthusiasts. However, there are some companies that focus on the super rich – Lamborghini, Ferrari and Aston Martin.
Joining the league of these super-expensive performance cars, Nissan GT-R has finally made its entry in our country. The iconic supercar, nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ for the sheer power, had started with its pre-bookings from September itself, and the company has finally unveiled the car for the public.
Nissan GT-R 2017 will be sold exclusively in its dealership in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The car was officially launched by brand ambassador, John Abraham in New Delhi. “The GT-R is a very special car for Nissan and we are delighted to add it to our Indian line-up for the first time in its history,” said Guillaume Sicard, President – Nissan India operations.
The car comes to India is seven interesting colours, with the highlight being the Katsura Orange, which is a copper-orange colour that suits the car just perfect. It also comes in Vibrant Red, Blue Racing, Ultimate Silver, Gun Metallic, Black Metallic and Pearl White.
The car is a completely built-up unit, which means that is has been directly imported from Nissan’s plant in Tochigi, Japan. India’s manufacturing business will play no role in even assembling the car locally. This means that if Nissan does plan to manufacture the car in India, ever, then there is a possibility of a drop in the price.

What’s so special in GT-R 2017?
Nissan GT-R has always been known for its classy sporty look, and a beast of an engine. The car is one of the favourites in the Middle-east countries and has won accolades for going from 0 to 100kmph in three seconds.
Take a look at the specifications sheet –
- Twin-turbocharged 3.8L V6 24-valve engine, each handcrafted by the TAKUMI technicians in Yokohama, Japan
- 565 bhp at 6,400rpm and 633 Nm of peak torque
- 6-speed dual-clutch transmission
- ‘V-motion’ grille for better engine cooling, with a new mesh pattern
- New designed front spoiler and bumper
- 8-inch touch-panel monitor inside, with 11 controls(down from 27 in the previous model)
- Shift paddles on the steering to allow quick gear changes when required
The headlamps of the car have also been redesigned to accommodate four LED units featuring Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS). The dashboard gets a new Nappa leather and the front seats have been redesigned to improve comfort.
Personally, the car looks fresh with those monster specs, a huge improvement from the last year’s model, and that colour makes it extremely attractive. The dual-clutch transmission makes it easy to reach high speeds in very less time, something that could be dangerous on the Indian roads.
However, the truth of supercars is that the sales are low and the driving conditions in India are not very suitable. Such cars tend to be driven at night, when the roads are relatively emptier. However, GT-R is not an extremely low car, and a can seat two people comfortably. Having said that, the enormous power of the vehicle can be a bit overwhelming for new drivers.
Overall, the price might seem a bit too high right now, because it is a CBU vehicle, but the car is a sure-shot competitor to the Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari 458 Italia. Nissan is a reliable name in the country now, which makes it a smart buy if you have Rs. 2 crores to shell out.
