Let’s face the truth; freshman housing is not always the easiest. One of the biggest concerns is the dreaded communal bathroom. It can get annoying when you think you have to share a bathroom with 20 other strangers. But the reality is, communal bathrooms are not so bad.
Before you left for college, you might have made sure you packed all your bathroom essentials and perfectly organized all the required toiletries. Not only that, but you might have also prepared yourself to share the toilets with other strangers. Of course, sharing your food is different from sharing a bathroom with strangers. In the case of communal bathrooms, you need to know that you have to walk yards back to your room after a shower in your towel.
If you are an adult who lived away from home, then you might miss the communal toilets. Communal bathrooms have their advantages and disadvantages. Here in this post, we have mentioned some of the pros and cons of using a communal bathroom.

Pros and Cons of Using Communal Bathrooms
A single suite can be impressive in terms of privacy but has its drawback. Here in this section, we have mentioned some of the pros and cons of using a communal bathroom to help you make a better choice.
Pros
1. No need to clean
If you are using a communal bathroom, there is no need to clean the bathroom or buy toiletries. You can rest assured that you will find a clean washroom to use when you wake up in the morning.
2. No need to buy toilet papers, paper towels, or soap-
You save a lot of money when you do not have to buy paper and soap products for your bathroom. When you live with a group of people, you know that the toilet papers will get over, and the best part is you need not worry about the availability of the toilet papers, soap, or tissues.
3. Rarely wait for toilet or shower.
When you have 4-8 showers in a bathroom, you will get a chance to use the bathroom immediately. On the other imagine if you are a group of four people and have only one shower, what will happen? But if you have a communal bathroom, do not worry.
4. Bonding with your floormates
We have heard people say, “you make new friends in the washroom.” The shared bathroom can be a very weird situation. So it is ok to befriend one another to decrease the awkwardness as much as you can.
5. Lighting is the best.
Most of the time, communal bathrooms are very bright, making it a good place for makeup application. On the other hand, the light in private bathrooms are significantly less and not so flattery. Another reason for the brightness can be due to the number of windows in the communal bathrooms.
Cons
1. Dirt
No matter how much you try to keep the communal bathroom clean, there will be one person or the other who will not the others. They might make the floor dirty and not care to clean it. At some point, no matter how much the maintenance crew cleans the bathroom, their dirt wins over the cleanliness, and the maintenance crew tends to give up.
2. Lack of Privacy
One of the best things about a private room is bathroom privacy. You can lock the doors and stay in for a longer time. It is not the same with communal bathrooms. Since you need to share a washroom with 20-30 other people, privacy in communal bathrooms is rare.
3. Shower Shoes
Wearing shoes and going to shower sounds silly. But since you are sharing a bathroom with 20-30 other people, you need to wear shower shoes. So make sure you put on some good shower shoes.
4. Towels in the hallway-
Another disadvantage of communal bathroom is that, you need to walk from the bathroom to your room wearing a towel. This is a risk of dignity. But you can get over this problem. make sure you tightly tie the towel around your waist to avoid any mishaps.
5. That one person who is in the washroom forever
There is always one person who is forever in the washroom. The one who will take forever to apply makeup, or comb their hair and is never in a rush. One question that comes to all our minds is, why are they always in the bathroom? Well, we will never know.
Conclusion:-
Communal bathrooms are not disgusting like they sound. In fact they are fun. Imagine jamming to your favorite song with your best friend while taking a shower. Fun isn’t it? Although there are a few people who will make it nasty. But its okay. There is nothing to worry about, you will get used to it with time.
