Brevisana brevis
This species of cicadas are found in South Africa and hold the record for producing the loudest calling song. They can be heard over one quarter of a mile away, even though they are relly small insects. The noise can reach 120 dB when heard at a close range, which is louder than the volume at which music is played in discotheques. The calling song plays a major role in communication, reproduction, and possibly defence.
