Here, in this essay, I will talk about the stand of English language in India. English has a very deep and an old relationship with India. It had its both good and bad times.There was a time when it was hated and scrutinized by the Indian and now is the time when English has become a universal language.
Introduction
After independence a roaring obligation was prefabricated to abolish English from the country. Those who opposed it said that English was a symbol of the established prescript. They further argued that it was voiced by a little periodical of grouping, so its staleness be eradicated from India. They demanded that Hindi and other regional languages should be used in place of English. When the deadline, 1965, for the switch over to Hindi came, there were riots in the country. The main opposition to Hindi came from the South.
After longstanding discussions, it was definite to keep English as an associate official language of the country with Hindi as the main official and national language. Afterward, the three-language instruction was also prepared. Since then the position has remained same. Nobody can contest the rightful claims of Hindi. But we must consider the importance and place of English in the changed situation today.
Importance of English in India
India is a domain of many languages, cultures and religions. But in the absence of a link language, its unity may fall into danger. When we see the situation today, we acquire that exclusive language like English can metamorphose a join module in India.
The importance of English at the authoritative point is well known. English is the associate language at the center. States have adopted their regional languages for official business. Many of them dislike the use of Hindu and so English is used for inter-state communication as well. Nagaland uses English as its official language and individual new states in India use English as a linking module.
Use of English
English is widely utilized in the field of pedagogy. There is a general lack of ideal school books in Hindi and other regional languages of the country. The medium of teaching in higher specialized institutes is still English. Perhaps we need several more years to enrich Indian languages take the place of English as the medium of instruction where higher and technical noesis is required. In fact, English enjoys a commanding position in science, technology, law, medicine, commerce, industries and diplomatic services.
English is a world language today.Even in Russia, China and Japan, English is taught in schools. In the absence of English, mercantilism of professors, doctors and students from India to remaining countries and from other countries to India will stop. Research operation will get lessened and the well-born of activity will also lose. In India, a group of people still opposes English for governmental reasons or out of sentiments. They very well know that it was the knowledge of English that helped India gain immunity.
Even after over forty years of independence, English occupies a key abode in every walk of life. Whether it is social, educational, administrative, technological, industrialized or advertizing invigoration in the country, we find English taking the approximate of honor. It is true that English cannot take the stand of Hindi or any other regional language, but its standing in the country will not disappear of practice.
